Perfect Kona French Press Coffee

Hello, coffee lovers! Today, we're going to share with you a delightful recipe on how to make the perfect French Press coffee using our very own Kona Kealakekua Bay roast.

Our Kona Kealakekua Bay roast brings a unique flavor profile from the volcanic soils of the Kona region, blending a subtle sweetness with hints of chocolate and a touch of fruity undertones. It’s a roast that can truly sing when brewed in a French press, capturing all its full-bodied, rich flavors.

Let's get started!

Instructions:

  1. Measure and Heat the Water: Measure out one French press (8 cups) of filtered water. We recommend using fresh, filtered water as it can greatly impact the taste of your coffee. Heat your water in a kettle or a hot pot to just below boiling — around 200 to 205 degrees Fahrenheit. A little tip: if you don't have a thermometer, simply wait 15-30 seconds after the water boils.

  2. Grind the Coffee Beans: While your water heats up, grind your Kona Kealakekua Bay beans. We recommend grinding 2 to 4 tablespoons of coffee beans. For French press, the optimal grind size is similar to the texture of sea salt. A burr grinder is best as it provides a consistent grind size, but a blade grinder will do if that's what you have. Remember, the finer the grind, the stronger and thicker the coffee will be.

  3. Prepare the French Press: Pour the coffee grounds into your French press.

  4. Add the Hot Water and Stir: Pour the hot water into the French press over the grounds. Stir the mixture gently to make sure all the grounds are soaked.

  5. Let it Steep: Allow the coffee to steep for about 4 minutes. During this time, the coffee extracts all its flavors into the water. If you like a stronger taste, you can let it steep a bit longer.

  6. Plunge: After the steeping time, gently press the plunger down. Make sure to depress the plunger slowly to avoid a bitter taste.

  7. Pour and Enjoy: Your perfect French Press Kona Kealakekua Bay coffee is ready. Pour it into your favorite cup, sit back, and enjoy the rich, full-bodied flavor of our Kona Kealakekua Bay roast.

Remember, coffee is a personal experience. Feel free to tweak the amount of coffee and water or the steeping time to create your perfect cup of coffee. And most importantly, enjoy the process! There's something wonderfully relaxing about making your own coffee, especially with a French press.
